Description PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Up for auction is this wonderful Steiff Teddy bear referred to as the "Original Teddy". The bear was made in 1951. I photographed information from "TEDDY BEARS A Complete Guide to History, Collecting, and Care" written by Sue Pearson and Dottie Ayers" published in 1995. This publication helps identify this bear along with some history of its making. Although this bear that I am listing has no metal button in its ear I have also had it confirmed from another teddy bear author that it is a Steiff and it is the 1951 "Original Teddy". This darling bear is 21 in. tall. Made of mohair with excelsior stuffing he is in excellent condition. His right paw has a small hole exposing excelsior stuffing and his left arm has a little wear to his mohair. Actually, I don't think it is wear, I think it is from storage and a little brushing should bring it back. Other than that he is just about mint! He has nice full mohair on his face, body, arms and legs. He has a small hump on his back and is jointed at the neck, shoulders and hips. There are four claws on his paws and feet (earlier bears had five). The pads on his paws and feet are excellent on three but the fourth has that hole (as mentioned above...see photo).  He has a working growler in his torso. He is a white or champagne plush mohair. His nose is stitched vertically and his glass eyes are intact. Read the article I have shown for more information. HE IS LARGE AND WONDERFUL. I think you will be very pleased with him!
