Description
EXTREMELY RARE. ************R*U*B*Y************ This is a pink Farnell ted circa 1910/15. She is made of pink, (apricot due to her fading) mohair of which she retains approx 80%. She does have a few bald spots , but this has never bothered me as she is such a lovely bear. She has carded feet and pointed hand pads, both features associated with Farnells of this date. She has five claws to each hand and foot, all original. One hand needs a couple of stitches tidying if you choose to. She has a front closing seam, only used by Steiff and Farnell at this time. She measures about 13" tall. She has a working squeeze growler not a squeaker. She has boot button eyes, rounded and shiney, a feature of the early Farnell bears. And I believe, her original embroidered nose and claw stitching. She has faded slightly over time to more of an apricot colour, but nothing to distract from her beautiful appearance. She is a very rare bear, and I will be honest in 20 years of collecting I have only ever seen one other, but that one was green and later in date. She is wood wool stuffed throughout, although she is a little limp in places, bless her. Farnell were one of the only manufactures at this time experimenting with coloured bears, although they were not very successfull, hence there rarity. This bear is in good condition, but please do not expect a new bear. She does carry her loved spots. I have added a couple of pictures and information on similar bears made by Farnell, although similar they are later in date, so not exactly the same. They do not have the Boot button eyes or carded feet. And as you may know, Farnell did not use the webbed claw stitching often associated with their bears on the smaller size bears. The problem with identifying early Farnell bears, is that they never used any form of identification on the early bears, they only started using swing tags later on in production. Overseas bidders PAYPAL only. Please see my other bears up for auction this week.
