M. Philippart." So you can get an idea of the scale on this antique French Victorian Miniature Room the original Gold Gilded Frame measures only 9 ¾” by 14”. The room itself measures only 11” cross by 6 ¾” tall by 5 5/8” deep. Some of the miniature hand made features include the tiny glass and metal wall sconces on either side of the two real mirrors, which match the candelabras on the mantle. The very light violet and pale green panels of the wall are cloth divided by 2-color painted framing. If you look closely at the window on the right you can see a landscape print behind the glass which is set back slightly for a great effect. The floor is real parquet herring bone made from paper thin mahogany and there’s more. The two Portrait Paintings you see on either side of the fireplace are actually paintings set in ¾” by 1” gold gilded frames. Both Bookcases are filled with tiny different sets of books and the ¾” tall Mantle Clock has a paper face and movable hands. The gentleman on the left has a fine quill pen in his hand and the French Couple in the middle look like they were just playing Backgammon near the window. The game board has all the pieces and the gentleman has left his tri-corner hat on the chair. These dolls are quite unusual. They do not have a face and are made from wire with the hand made silk clothing, sewn on. The two dolls in the middle measure 2 ½” tall. Every piece in this antique French Victorian Room is hand made, including the small cat. There are no damages or any repairs, except for the plant on the far left. I’m sure it once had more that one leaf. The rest of the classic French Doll’s Room is perfect. On the outside of the box is covered in an old velvet cloth covering. You can see several places where this weak cloth tore revealing the cotton bunting underneath. This thin cotton is what you would use when upholstering a chair.
