Description
Current Lot FINE EARLY NEW YORK CITY BROWNSTONE DOLLHOUSE. A most unusual and attractive dollhouse circa 1870s with provenance. This house was created from a schematic rendering of John Crosby Brown's New York City brownstone. Mr. Brown was a founder of Brown Bros. Herriman Bank with branches in Boston, London and New York City. This house has remained in the family for well over 100 years and was passed down to the great-granddaughter, who has since decided to dispose of this great piece of Americana. This 4-story dollhouse of pine construction and painted to look like a brownstone is hinged and opens from the front by a series of two doors. Interior consists of six rooms and an attic, entrance to the attic is through a hinged roof panel; interior wooden floors and painted walls have been "freshened" from generation to generation. A fabulous display piece for those who collect dolls of the period or for someone who can appreciate the architecture of an authentic brownstone. Forgot to mention that the street number "36" is gold-leafed onto the glass panel above the front door. SIZE: 58" h x 43" w. 23" d. at roof line. CONDITION: Exterior paint appears to be all original and intact, glass windows most likely replaced over the years. Missing triangular wooden piece from rear of roof. Overall condition very good plus. 1-8910 (2,500-4,500)
