This Pirate Robin der Bar is named “Robert Edwards” and he is in need of TLC to restore him to his former glory. I sold him a few years back and the person who bought him contacted me when she wanted to sell him. So, I have a bear that is a tiny bit of a project that will result into a glorious bruin, if someone will put a little time into him. I can’t sew to save my life – it’s either the tailor or Stitch Witchery for smaller things. This Robert Edwards stands 20” tall and he was made from thick black distressed mohair. He has gorgeous cobalt blue eyes (with black pupils) and a brown, slightly twitchy nose. He has a very straight centre-seam face and it’s nicely done. Robert Edwards can stand very well. He has leather paw pads. He wears an awesome ensemble that consists of a deep hand-dyed salmon colored velvet jacket (fully lined), a cream broadcloth shirt with ties to fluff out underneath his fine coat, brown suede pants and a thick leather belt. He has a lacey cravat with a vintage green “jewel” to wear around his neck. Robert Edwards wears a wool tricorn hat (made by Marie) with cream wool trim, gold braiding and an embroidered anchor on the front. Robert Edwards has his original artist hangtag and he has Marie’s trademark Robin der Bar label on his arm. I have over-exposed some of my photos in an effort to show my friendly pirate bear's face. Why does Robert Edwards need help? Well, almost all of his nautical have been removed from his jacket. I have replacements that match the buttons still on his coat. His cravat has been cut in the back, so it would need to be stitched up again. At least the person who had him, opened the jacket on the seam to remove the buttons. The clothing, from this point on is fine. His clothes are clean and so is Robert Edwards himself. The small holes in his jacket would be easily hidden with replacement buttons. See jacket photos for replacement buttons (exact match!) and Marie's logo. My biggest concern is his tummy. I have no way of knowing whether Marie trimmed his fur, so as to allow the clothing to fit better, or if the person who had him trimmed this area. The fur has been cut close to the backing, but the backing has not been cut nor are there any holes in the backing. Robert Edwards is stuffed with excelsior and extremely tiny pieces are capable of “escaping” once in a while. He does not have ANY moth damage at all. I would suggest either leaving it alone (as I have done) or using a stretch fabric to prevent the minor bits of excelsior from coming through IF you feel this will bother you. Alternatively, a good piece of fabric could be hand-stitched around the area. I have had this bear for a year and the “spillage” is so minor and no worse than it was when I received Robert Edwards. I would never have noticed this area had I left Robert Edwards clothed. I just thought it would be wise to check every inch of this poor bruin. I can't even photograph the area for you, as it simply does not show up. Again, Robert Edwards is super clean and so are his clothes. His leather paw pads are great except for a few minor scuffs and these things happen with leather. This really could be a wonderful bear again if one of you is willing to take on a sewing project. I was thinking about doing the repairs, but I would have needed to disclose all the work I did anyway and I wasn’t willing to go to the seamstress. My sewing would be SO sub-par! Please do not be shy about asking questions or requesting photos. This bear was made in 1999 and I bought him from his original owner on the secondary market. I believe I paid $1,200 for him, but I have reduced his current price dramatically. This is one of the Robins that I wrote about in a previous description for another of Marie’s bears who did not find a new home – but I am actually relieved that he did not. It is so difficult to part with any Robin. I did reduce my price on a larger Robin, but I had specific reasons for doing so. This is still an amazing bear from a talented bear maker. If I didn’t think he was worth salvaging, I wouldn’t waste my time by photographing and listing him, nor would I waste your time. I wish I could offer my higher priced bears - but I’m offering what I think the market will bear – no pun intended! Robert Edwards is a clever bear although he does hit the eggnog a little heavily this time of year – I SO love eggnog, don’t you? Please forgive the little bits of fluff on my photos. They are remnants of the “snow” on my table. Also, I am working without my glasses, so I am at a bit of a loss on the tiny details! Robert Edwards weighs 7.1 pounds and he was around my pets but that was many years ago. My home has always been smoke-free.
